allgpslogstil2005

A GPX file exported by GPSMan from a Garmin handheld. It holds one saved track whose points keep their order but lost their clock, 9,999 log points timed from 14 November 2004 to 14 October 2005, and 410 named waypoints.

  • Log with clock time, coloured by date
  • Saved track: order kept, time lost
  • Nothing recorded in between
  • Waypoint, undated

      About the file

Saved tracks on these receivers keep position and altitude but drop time. GPSMan wrote every missing time as 1989-12-30 23:59:59, one second before the origin of the Garmin clock.

The log stops at 9,999 points, near the capacity of Garmin handhelds of the period, so older entries were probably overwritten. The saved track looks like a compressed copy of what came before; its last stretch overlaps the first days of the log.

Altitudes come from GPS alone and are noisy, with some coastal readings below sea level. The saved track's flight samples sit near 11,900 m.

Six log points were removed as receiver glitches, one of them a fix placed 1,500 km north of Bergen. Waypoint names and symbols appear as stored on the device.
